STAR III
Once Melchior recovered and the camels were ready, the Three continued their journey to Bethlehem altogether. Gaspar was nervous because they didn’t have as much time as he would have liked to get there, according to his calculations. But Balthazar, who knew the desert very well, was at peace, and Melchior was full of confidence although he didn’t understand much. He placed no doubts on his intuition.
It was afternoon. The oasis known by Balthazar was still far away. The camels showed no sign of exhaustion. However, they all knew that was no kind of guarantee. Camels can collapse from one moment to another without previous signals. They die of exhaustion, loyal to their purpose.
They continued their way in complete silence until it became evident that they needed to take a pause. The first night on the road was challenging because the wind was crazy, and the air was cold. But I could observe that there was something deep inside their hearts, like a point of light, that kept them warm.
The next day, they woke up full of optimism, expecting to reach the oasis by noon. On their way, they talked about the Sun. Even though Gaspar was studious of the moon, he accepted that the strength of every single atom came from the Sun. And I smiled, not like humans do but like stars do. As a star who lives behind the Sun, I smiled because feeling my presence inside their human body is about Love.
When they were close to the oasis, Balthazar, who was always quiet, asked:
“What questions do you make when you are in silence?”
And the silence was made.
They were all observing their inner questions, those that come out as a natural effect of the act of contemplating one’s life.
He repeated:
“What questions do you make when you are in silence?”
And the question sounded like an answer itself.
They arrived at the oasis in perfect shape, but above all, they arrived at the oasis in perfect silence. True humility is a gift.
